Build Engineer

Gunfire Games is seeking a mid or senior-level Build Engineer to support our dev team on upcoming titles. This role will focus on creating robust, automated pipelines that keep our game development on track and running smoothly. You’ll collaborate closely with technical teams and IT to design and maintain tools that streamline production, identify and resolve stability issues, and improve overall efficiency. The ideal candidate is passionate about automation, thrives on problem-solving, and is committed to delivering high-quality gaming experiences. Required to be a self-starter, highly motivated, and capable of working with minimal supervision. Position may be performed remotely (within the United States) although ability to be on-site is preferred.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Automation Development:

  • Maintain and update automated build, test, and deployment pipelines using TeamCity.

  • Create scripts (in Python) and tools to streamline repetitive tasks and improve team efficiency.

  • Maintain systems for real-time monitoring and reporting of build and system stability using Sentry.

Build and Integration:

  • Manage and optimize CI pipelines to ensure efficient and reliable game builds.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve build conflicts, failures, and dependency issues.

  • Collaborate with developers to integrate changes into stable builds.

Version Control and Asset Management:

  • Manage large-scale repositories in Perforce, ensuring smooth integration with CI pipelines.

  • Optimize asset and version control workflows for game development teams.

Stability Assurance:

  • Monitor game builds for stability issues, including crashes, performance degradation, and asset inconsistencies.

  • Implement automated validation systems to catch issues early in the development process.

  • Conduct root cause analysis on build failures and crashes and collaborate on resolution.

Unreal Engine Workflow:

  • Leverage your experience with Unreal Engine to manage and optimize its build processes.

  • Ensure efficient handling of Unreal Engine assets and large file repositories.

Performance Optimization:

  • Monitor and improve build times and overall pipeline performance.

  • Optimize resource usage and infrastructure to support large-scale game projects.

REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in build engineering, automation, or a related role in game development.

  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools such as TeamCity, Jenkins, or GitLab CI/CD.

  • Proficiency in scripting languages like Python, Bash, or PowerShell.

  • Solid understanding of Unreal Engine, including its build tools, workflows, and asset management practices.

  • Strong familiarity with version control systems like Perforce and Git.

  • Experience working in Windows environment.

  • Must be physically in the US and legally able to work in the US without employer sponsorship for an indefinite period of time

  • Soft skills needed:

    • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and address issues in build and deployment workflows.

    • Collaboration: Strong communication and teamwork skills to work effectively with developers, QA, and operations.

    • Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to automation processes and stability assurance.

    • Adaptability: Eagerness to learn and adapt to new tools, workflows, and challenges.

PLUSES

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud for build infrastructure.

  • Knowledge of programming languages such as C++ and C#, particularly in a game development context.

  • Previous experience working on large-scale game projects, especially AAA titles.

Pay range: $70,000 - $120,000. Title level (mid/senior) and base pay offered will be based on candidate’s skills, experience, and other professional considerations.
