Senior Technical Artist

Gunfire Games is looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Technical Artist who will focus on performance optimization and asset management for consoles for our upcoming titles. We need someone who will bridge the gap between artists and programmers. There will be a strong emphasis on identifying issues, building tools to optimize and streamline workflows, and effectively partnering with other disciplines to resolve performance problems. The ideal candidate has strong technical and problem-solving skills, a passion for creating procedural content, and a proven track record in optimizing workflows. Required to be a self-starter, must be motivated and able to work with minimal supervision, and must be able to work onsite in Austin, Texas.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performance Profiling and Optimization: Lead efforts in profiling game performance and optimizing asset budgets to ensure smooth and efficient gameplay across various platforms.

  • Pipeline Development: Collaborate with programmers to design and implement new tools and workflows for procedurally generated content, with a focus on maintaining optimal performance.

  • Technical and Artistic Collaboration: Understand the requirements and constraints of game design, engine, and platform to ensure seamless integration and performance of assets.

  • Problem Solving: Assist team members in identifying and resolving performance-related issues during production.

  • Communication: Clearly articulate optimization processes and effectively receive and incorporate critical feedback.

  • Innovation: Research and implement new techniques and technologies to continuously improve and streamline the art pipeline for better performance.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Proficiency in Unreal Engine material creation, blueprint scripting, and tool creation.

  • Extensive experience and proven track record in optimizing game performance and managing asset budgets

  • Experience with at least one digital content creation tool, such as 3ds Max, Blender, or Substance Painter/Designer

  • Solid organizational skills with adherence to asset budgets and management practices

  • Experience with Level management and optimization on PC and Consoles

  • 5+ professional years of development experience

  • Shipped at least 1 AA/AAA title

  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Must be able to work physically onsite in Austin, Texas.

  • Must be physically in the US and legally able to work in the US without employer sponsorship for an indefinite period of time

PLUSES

  • Experience with Unreal PCG

  • Experience with programming languages such as Python or C++

  • Understanding of Digital Asset creation for use in Unreal Engine

  • Background in environment art, VFX, or technical animation
